Thigh Lift Surgery After Weight Loss
A thigh lift puts the final touch on a new, trim body for many post-weight loss patients. The fact is, after losing dozens or even hundreds of pounds, and when other plastic surgery after weight loss is complete, people often find they have loose skin and stubborn fatty deposits persisting on their inner thighs. This is an area of the body with great influence over how you look in and out of clothing and how you feel when going about your normal daily activities. After losing the weight, it makes sense to consider what a medial (inner) thigh lift might accomplish for you.
Getting a great result from this procedure requires a plastic surgeon who is both highly skilled in body contouring and experienced with the special health characteristics of post-weight loss patients. Request a consultation with Dr. Kaufman in Sacramento, find out more about his approach and discover why most of his patients who elect thigh lift are very happy they decided to address this problematic area.
Candidates for Thigh Lift
Although the thighs may be last in line to be treated after weight loss, surgery in this area is no less important for many people than midbody or chest procedures. If you feel your body transformation just isn't complete due to droopy, unattractive inner thighs, you may be a good candidate.
Healing of the inner thighs can be more challenging than for other parts of the body. The supply of blood to the area is not normally vigorous, and incisions near the groin can sometimes prove tricky to care for. The key to success is your readiness to follow your surgeon's instructions. You also need to know that scars are unpredictable and, depending on incision placement, will be visible in certain situations.
Additional risks of thigh lift include those common to other plastic surgery procedures, such as infection, wound breakdown, fluid collection, numbness, scar widening, problems with anesthesia and so on.
Thigh Lift Surgery and Recovery
Most people can have thigh lift surgery in an outpatient setting, and general anesthesia is normally used. The procedure is usually one of two types. The first removes a crescent of skin in the upper medial thigh and hides the incision in a groin crease. The second combines this crescent with a vertical extension, creating a "T" shaped incision which can be extended as far as necessary to tighten up extra skin all around the thigh. After surgery, a compression garment must be worn for about six weeks.
Initial recovery is more restrictive for thigh lift surgery than for most other post-weight loss plastic surgery procedures. Patients are required to minimize their normal activities significantly for the first week. At about the two week mark, most people will be adding many light activities back into their routine. At about two months, recovery is at or near completion.
