A breast lift with implants, also known as a mastopexy augmentation, is an ideal procedure for women who have lost a significant amount of weight, as it lifts droopy breasts and with the addition of an implant, adds upper pole fullness to the breasts.
If, after shedding the weight, your breasts still look big and unappealing to you, chances are what you’re seeing is mostly extra skin and therefore, the redundant skin needs to be reduced. However, if you’re like most women, there often isn’t enough remaining breast tissue left to achieve a perky shape. Thus, breast implants inserted in conjunction with a breast lift can increase both breast size and firmness and give your breasts a more youthful appearance with a great shape.
Candidates for Breast Lift with Implants in Sacramento
Candidates for mastopexy augmentation are women whose weight loss has led to significant sag and volume deflation of the breasts. Additionally, before proceeding with surgery, you should be at or close to your weight goal, be in good health, and have realistic expectations.
It is also important that you are acquainted with the possible risks and complications that can accompany this procedure. While they happen rarely, risks common to any surgery such as infection and hematoma can occur. Risks specific to breast surgery, such as loss of nipple sensation and residual asymmetry, can also happen. And with implants, there’s always the possibility of eventual rupture and capsular contracture. At the time of your consultation, your surgeon will review all possible complications with you prior to your post weight loss surgery.
Breast Lift with Implants Surgery and Recovery
During your consultation, you will work with Dr. Kaufman or Dr. Davis to make many decisions. The first being which type of implant to use—saline or silicone. Implants can be smooth or textured, round or shaped, and each comes in different profiles, which affect how far the implant extends from the chest. Second, you’ll also need to agree on implant placement. Our surgeons prefer to place implants below the chest muscle, instead of just under the breast tissue, to achieve a most natural looking result. You will have plenty of time to learn about your options and make the right choices for you.
With regard to scarring, the amount of skin that needs to be removed to create your desired results will influence what your incisions and scars will be like. Typically, the incision pattern needed for a breast lift with implants looks like a lollipop—around the areola and a vertical limb down to the fold under the breast. Occasionally, some women require a horizontal incision at the base of the breast to give them a better shape. Your surgeon will determine which incision pattern is right for you.
Finally, patients who undergo mastopexy augmentation are provided a general anesthetic, in which case you will be asleep through the entire operation. The procedure typically takes between two to three hours to complete and is performed in our onsite surgical facility. Further, we are proud to use only board certified anesthesiologists for your utmost safety.
During your first few days of recovery, you can expect mild to moderate discomfort, which you will be able to control with medication. Most patients resume light activities and work approximately ten days after surgery and are able to resume their normal routine within six to eight weeks.
